marsha mitchell, truman & Janet Hagbloom Honored with 2024 Legacy of Faith Catholic Service AwardUPPER PENINUSLA, MI - Marsha Mitchell of St. Joseph Parish in Sault Ste. Marie along with Truman and Janet Hagbloom of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in L’Anse are the recipients of the Catholic Diocese of Marquette’s 2024 Legacy of Faith Catholic Service Award. This prestigious award is presented annually to parishioners of the diocese who have demonstrated a lifetime of dedication and service to the Catholic Church.
Marsha Mitchell's unwavering commitment to St. Joseph Parish is evident through her extensive involvement. She serves as the president of the Ladies' Guild, is a member of the St. Joseph Parish Finance Council, participates on the Parish Leadership Team, and volunteers at St. Mary Catholic School in Sault Ste. Marie. Her leadership in numerous fundraisers has significantly benefitted the school, parish, and community members. With over 30 years of teaching catechism, her roles as a Eucharistic Minister, and her overall engagement in parish life, Marsha is a beacon of Catholic faith to all who meet her.
Truman and Janet Hagbloom have been active pillars of the Sacred Heart Parish community since their move to L’Anse 20 years ago. Their collective ministry spans faith formation, lector, Extraordinary Minister of Communion, altar server, Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul, Welcoming Team, collection counting, and providing insurance consultation services. Truman, an adult altar server and Faith Formation Coordinator, serves as the Financial Secretary for the Knights of Columbus and is a 4th Degree Knight. His commitment is mirrored by Janet, who actively supports church activities and is deeply involved in the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry and store, as well as welcoming new parish members.
The Catholic Service Award is a program of Legacy of Faith, which is the campaign to build the Endowment Foundation of the Diocese of Marquette. The award was created in 2006 in the spirit and intent of the endowment to preserve and foster the Catholic faith in the Upper Peninsula.
